Emergency Travel Document

  1. Eligibility: An applicant who is a bona-fide Sri Lankan citizen by descent or by registration.
  2. Validity: Valid for 03 months and one way document ONLY to return to Sri Lanka.
  3. Criteria? ETD can be applied ONLY under the following emergency circumstances:

a) The passport is lost or stolen and the applicant needs to leave for Sri Lanka urgently.

b) An emergency has occurred (need to prove the emergency with original documents as evidence) while an application for a new passport has already been submitted and is pending.

        Personal declaration (letter with applicant’s signature) stating the circumstances in which the passport was lost or stolen, including all contact details– Compulsory
7          Personal data page of lost or stolen passport – If available
8        Emergency circumstance “b’(An emergency has occurred while an application has already been submitted for a New Passport and is pending) Application-Form-K Note : (Please read the instructions carefully before filling out the application form)
9        Request letter stating the circumstances and addressed to Controller General/Department of Immigration and Emigration Sri Lanka, including all contact details – Compulsory
10     All original pieces of evidence to support the case (Documentary evidence signed by authorized officers or institutions in Sri Lanka, with contact details stating the emergency).Note:  If the evidence is not sufficient or unsatisfactory, the application may be rejected.
11     Details of the pending application already submitted for a New Passport – Compulsory
12     Original copy of the Travel itinerary – Compulsory
13     Six (06) passport size colour photographs – Compulsory
14     Certified Birth Certificate copy – Compulsory
15     National Identity Card (if available) with two copies
16     Sri Lankan Citizenship Certificate – if applicable
17     Evidence of Visa status of residing country (Australia,  Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Samoa) – Compulsory
18     Applicable fee If it is within Australia and if the applicant produces a previous passport (Expired) = AUD 77.00 + AUD 10.00 for normal postage – Compulsory
19If it is outside Australia and if the applicant produces a previous passport (Expired)  = AUD 77.00 + normal postage AUD 40.00 (New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Samoa)– CompulsoryApplicant is responsible for arranged prepaid currier service to return documents.  
20 If it is within Australia and if the applicant has lost or stolen the previous passport = AUD 240.00 + AUD 10.00 for normal postage – Compulsory
21       If it is outside Australia and if the applicant has lost or stolen the previous passport) = AUD 240.00 Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Samoa)– Compulsory Applicant is responsible for arranged prepaid currier service to return documents.  
22     Payment method If the applicant physically visits the High Commission or Consulate offices, he/she can pay by Cash/ CardNote: Personal or Company cheques will not be accepted. Please send your application by post to us. Then we will advise you the bank details via email. Note: If the applicant sends Money orders, Bank Draft or directly credit money into the High Commission or consulate bank accounts, without prior instructions, the responsibility lies with the applicant for any loss/shortage or delay.
23     Special Notes (Important)  Fees will not be refunded under any circumstance, after issuance of an official receipt;Translations will not be accepted as originals;All photocopies should be on A4 size paper;High Commission will attest the documents and return the originals to the applicantIf the applicant needs to send/receive documents (by express courier service or speed post etc) on an urgent basis, he/she must organise them independently.The High Commission is unable to take any responsibility for documents lost or delayed in the post/courier.
